Authors must declare the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing upon submission of their paper. The following guidance refers strictly to the writing process, and not to the use of AI tools to analyze and draw insights from data as part of the research process:
- Language and Readability Enhancement Only: Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies should only be used in the writing process to improve the readability, grammar, and language of the manuscript.
- Human Oversight and Accountability: The technology must be applied under human oversight and control. Authors should carefully review and edit all AI-generated output, as AI can produce authoritative-sounding statements that are incorrect, incomplete, or biased. Authors are ultimately responsible and fully accountable for the entire content of their published work.
- Authorship Restrictions: Authors must not list or cite AI or AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author on the manuscript. Authorship implies legal, ethical, and academic responsibilities that can only be attributed to and performed by humans.
Declaration Statement Requirement
The use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing must be declared by adding a dedicated statement at the end of the manuscript when the paper is submitted. This statement will appear in the published article and should be placed in a separate section immediately before the References list.
Example Format:
Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process
During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the published article.
Exemptions: The declaration requirement does not apply to basic writing tools, such as standard tools used solely for checking grammar, spelling, or reference formatting. If authors have not used generative AI tools in the preparation of the manuscript, no statement is required.
Policy for Editors and Peer Reviewers
To protect authors’ rights, intellectual property, and the confidentiality of submitted research, JLCEdu strictly prohibits the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies (such as ChatGPT, Claude, or similar services) by peer reviewers or editors during the evaluation and peer-review process. The Editorial Office actively evaluates compliant AI tools and may revise this policy in the future as technology and privacy standards evolve.
